Do we have to attend marriage education classes?

In Australia, It is not a legal requirement for you to attend marriage education classes. Your celebrant is legally obliged to maintain an up-to-date knowledge about appropriate family relationship services in the community and advise you about the range of information and services that are available to you. There are many services that can support and enhance your marriage, your family life and all of your relationships.

Courses are available that are both informative and very practical, giving you and your partner many skills that you can put in your 'tool bag' for building a strong and healthy relationship. Some examples of courses  -  Building Better Relationships, Healthy Communication, Parenting, Stepfamilies, Over 50's, Conflict Resolution (or as we used to call the course we delivered.. Fighting Fairly.. a most important skill to know).

Many of the things you learn will amaze you, inspire you and certainly they will be great gifts for you both and for your children if you have any. (Children really do learn what they see and hear from their parents)

Libraries, adult education centres, community notice boards, newspapers are great resources for finding further information. There are also many videos and books available on the topic of marriage education.
