My 50th Birthday Wish

Hello to my dear friends, colleagues, readers... here, close to home, and those across the ocean.

The whales are passing by the harbour as they head north on their migration to warmer waters. From my window I can see them splashing and flopping about with gay abandon.  They make me smile when I see them - mammoth beings playing with such frivolity like children.

Winter is here and tonight, sitting in my office, my toes are froze. I'm about to get a hot water bottle and snuggle into bed under the covers. But before I do...I want to ask for a very special favour please.

On the 9th July this year it will be my 50th birthday.
I am very happy to be celebrating 50 years! I am planning a quiet celebration with family and friends before I go, as one of the key speakers, to the AFCC national celebrant conference in the beautiful Hunter Valley for a week afterwards.

After the upheaval, transformation and delights of the year away I am enjoying my life here at home with all its more subtle changes and rhythms, its routines and random things: I appreciate the love of my family and friends, the joy and blessing of being healthy, the spaciousness in my heart and opening of presence; and opening more and more to giving and receiving, to finding the balance between resting and doing... it's all an adventure.

My request is for a very special 'birthday book'. To do this I am inviting everyone I am in contact with to share their words of wisdom. Yes, there are many famous people making statements about what is most important and also there are many wise quotes and funny stories on the subject however I wish to honour the innate wisdom that is present within each of us. I would love to hear from you if you wish to participate. Please email me (by the 19th June please) your thoughts about

'the most important thing in life (to know, to have, to love, to be... take your pick) is.... (you can write about one, or more, of the most important things..... no one right or wrong answer for this sharing)

You can add a photo or drawing if you wish or just type me your thoughts. (the book will be printed 8inches by 8inches) No pressure, just a wish. I will then collate it into a beautiful picture book and print out a copy for my birthday.

Already I have received so many wonderful and diverse wise words. I look forward to hearing from you.

A blessing for a young teen

I wrote this blessing for a young friend who was turning 16. His mum was putting together a birthday book for him. I found a beautiful photograph of an archer to give it some colour and presence.  ... read more

50th Birthday Celebration - the gathering of the wise women

I felt very blessed to be in Wales this weekend for Liz’s 70th and I was also invited to a women’s gathering on the Saturday. Sarah had celebrated her birthday in January but because of the snow storms that had isolated many parts of England in that month had waited until now to call a gathering. She wanted to invite many of her women friends who were over 50 (I was given a concession pass!) to join her and share their wisdom on getting older.   ... read more

70th Birthday Celebration

We drove from Monyash to south west Wales on Friday for the gathering of Roger’s clan.

We turned up the Crosby, Stills and Nash album and bopped along the highway in anticipation of being with some of his very dear friends and being back in a gorgeous part of the world, the coast near Cardigan.

Liz was celebrating her 70th birthday and people were coming from far and wide, in particular the hippies from the 60’s that were part of the lifestyle in Wales all those years ago.

It was lots of fun as people reconnected, danced and partied on into the night. The old rockers, Hawkwind played, and prior to them starting old dance favourites were delivered by the iPod.  I loved it.  I danced for a while then stepped back to watch the people on the dance floor. I was marveling to see the four year olds, the teenagers, the mid 30’s to 60’s and the sprightly 70 year olds shaking their tail feathers.
